Valley of Fire plus the Lost City Museum Tour from Las Vegas - Public
Valley of Fire gathers its name from the various shades of red sand the rock formations are made of and from the reflections the blazing desert sun has that often causes them to appear to be on fire.
This surreal place was once home to an early American civilization known as the Anasazi Indians. Among the abundant formations are Indian artworks called Petroglyphs and Pictographs that have endured the test of time for over 3000 years. Come out to discover the Lost City Museum, which now protects the foundations of the ancient ruins the Indians lived in. On display here are many wonderful artifacts, including arrowheads and tools, pottery and baskets, and other priceless pieces.
Valley of Fire, at over 42,000 acres, is Nevadas largest and oldest state park, designated a National Natural Landmark in 1968, and is truly a Jewel of the American Southwest. It sits on the Nevada Scenic Byway outside of Las Vegas, NV, above Lake Mead National Recreation Area near the Virgin Rivers confluence.
